Learn Sign Language!
Do you have a friend or loved one who signs? Have you ever wanted to learn how to sign? Here's you chance! Join us @ your library (R) for beginner classes in sign language. The classes are geared towards teenagers and adults. They will be held at the Mammoth Lakes Library on Tuesdays, from 5:30 to 6:45 PM, beginning March 8. There will be ten classes total. If you miss one of the classes, you can come to the next one and join in. Your instructor will be Lucy Wooten. Although new to the Eastern Sierra, she has taught sign for the last five years. Come in and let her teach you a new language -- FREE OF CHARGE! And if you are already bilingual, here's your chance to be trilingual! Contact Nathan Bomer @ your library (R), 934-4777, for more information.
Escape the snow for a little while and visit Patagonia @ your library (R). Come join us on Wednesday, March 9, at 7 PM for a free slideshow by Rick Jali. He will take us to the southernmost tip of South America, which enjoys summer while we are in the midst of winter! Rick will show us the wild, natural beauty of this distant part of the world. The show will include Santiago, Chile, and move south from there to Tierra del Fuego, the Straits of Magellan, and the Beagle Passage. The trip includes snow covered mountains, glaciers, and waterfalls, and then a quick visit to Cape Horn. From there, he will take us north through Argentina to the huge Moreno Glacier and the spectacular mountain peaks of the Mt. Fitzroy area. After that we head back into Chile for the equally majestic peaks of the Torres del Paine. Wildlife along the way includes guanacos and rheas. Do you know what they are? Come and find out about these unusual creatures. Again, join us for an evening of Patagonia travel. For more information, contact Nathan, 934-4777.

TRIVIA QUESTION OF THE WEEK: What is the oldest library in the world that's still operating?
ANSWER TO LAST WEEK'S QUESTION: What do "The Wizard of Oz" and "The Diary of Anne Frank" have in common? Both of these beloved classics have been challenged as inappropriate and even dangerous. These two books, as well as hundreds of others, have been challenged or banned at one time from the shelves of public libraries, schools, and bookstores in the United States. |
